It could be cultural you know. I'm Australian and of that generation, or upbringing anyway, that wasn't given to such things. Otherwise, I've done gigs in China that were like being in a Wong Fei Hong movie, "Wah! You are great!". Ha ha ha ha.

Anyway, you'd figure at forty-something I'd have gotten used to it. Maybe one day...nobodyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13067422372087431256noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5842308776616107900.post-91215673516729872962008-01-05T08:44:00.000+11:002008-01-05T08:44:00.000+11:00Oh no. The other is fake or superficial.

Oftentimes you can easily recognize flattery. Often the flatterer wants something from you, maybe not immediately, maybe only later. Flattery comes with an agenda. Sometimes the agenda is visible or obvious, other times it isn't. Anyhow...

Try not to be uncomfortable with receiving a compliment. You might feel bashful about it, but over time you can become less bashful and you'll just appreciate it. Fully for what it is, without reservation or hesitation.

Nevertheless, I think that I also get your overall drift. But I still wanted to clarify flattery versus compliments, from my own point of view; and for anyone who might want/need to know the difference.

ciao fer now, annemarie :)annemariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02543238344282400496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5842308776616107900.post-81576168628850218132008-01-03T15:01:00.000+11:002008-01-03T15:01:00.000+11:00Thanks annemarie,All flattery gratefully, albeit u...Thanks annemarie,

All flattery gratefully, albeit uneasily, received.nobodyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13067422372087431256noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5842308776616107900.post-54001824784666067292008-01-03T12:08:00.000+11:002008-01-03T12:08:00.000+11:00Yeah mate. It's bloody, it's ugly, it's damned, as in god-damned.

And as heaven is my witness, there's a cure for that too ;)

Three cheers for the underdogs, all of em, all of us. Three more x three more for all who retain any semblance of dignity on this tainted plane. Can't be bought or sold, dignity that is. That is something we can all keep with us.
